Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC)

The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) is a special tribunal established to prosecute senior leaders and those most responsible for crimes committed during the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-1979), including genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. It is a hybrid court, combining Cambodian and international judges and staff, aiming to deliver justice, promote national reconciliation, and acknowledge the suffering of victims. The ECCC operates within Cambodia’s legal framework but also adheres to international standards to ensure fair trials and accountability for one of the 20th century’s most brutal genocides.
