Extramedullary tumors
Extramedullary tumors are abnormal growths that develop outside the bone marrow, where blood cells are normally produced. These tumors can originate from various cell types, such as plasma cells in multiple myeloma, and may form in tissues like the skin, organs, or soft tissues. They often indicate either a spread of an existing blood cancer or a localized growth. Symptoms depend on their location and size, and diagnosis typically involves imaging and biopsy. Treatment options vary and may include chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery, aiming to control or eliminate the tumor.
