Exteroceptive and Proprioceptive Reflexes

Exteroceptive reflexes are automatic responses triggered by stimuli from outside the body, like pulling your hand away from a hot surface. Proprioceptive reflexes originate from sensors within muscles and joints, providing information about body position and movement; for example, automatically adjusting your posture when you shift. Both types of reflexes help protect the body from harm and maintain balance without you having to think about it. Exteroceptive reflexes respond to external threats or changes, while proprioceptive reflexes coordinate internal awareness of limb and body positions to support smooth movement.
