Extensive Properties

Extensive properties are characteristics of a material that depend on the amount or size of the substance present. Examples include mass, volume, and total energy. If you double the amount of a substance, these properties also double. They are different from intensive properties, which remain unchanged regardless of quantity, like temperature or density. Extensive properties help in understanding the scale or size of a material in a system, providing insight into how much material is involved, and are useful in calculations involving proportional relationships.
