Exposure Index

The Exposure Index (EI) is a number used in digital radiography to measure how much light or radiation the image receptor was exposed to during a scan or image capture. It helps technicians assess if an image was taken with the proper exposure—too low can result in a dark image, and too high can cause an overly bright or washed-out image. The EI guides adjustments to ensure consistent, high-quality images, facilitating accurate diagnoses while minimizing patient exposure to radiation.
