Exon-Florio Amendment

The Exon-Florio Amendment is a U.S. law that gives the government the authority to review and block foreign investments in U.S. companies if those investments could threaten national security. It was enacted in 1988 and is managed by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). The law allows the government to scrutinize deals, especially those involving critical technologies or infrastructure, and reject or modify them to protect the country’s interests. Its goal is to balance economic openness with safeguarding national security concerns.
