Exoduster Movement

The Exoduster Movement was a migration of African Americans from the Southern United States to Kansas during the late 1800s, starting around 1879. Faced with ongoing racial discrimination, violence, and limited opportunities, many sought safety and freedom by moving west. Kansas, with its reputation as a more equal and welcoming state, became a destination. The movement was one of the first large-scale efforts of African Americans to settle outside the South post-Civil War, symbolizing a quest for better living conditions, civil rights, and self-determination.
