Exclusive Enteral Nutrition (EEN) is a medical treatment where a person with conditions like inflammatory bowel disease relies entirely on a specially formulated liquid diet, called an enteral formula, for all their nutritional needs. This means they receive all necessary calories, vitamins, and minerals through a tube or as a drinking solution, avoiding solid foods. EEN is used to reduce inflammation, promote healing in the gut, and improve symptoms. It is often recommended for children and adults as a first-line or supportive therapy, especially when medications alone are insufficient or cause side effects.
