Evolocumab

Evolocumab is a medication used to lower LDL cholesterol, often called "bad" cholesterol, to help reduce the risk of heart disease. It works by blocking a protein called PCSK9, which normally increases cholesterol levels by preventing the body from removing LDL cholesterol from the blood. By inhibiting PCSK9, evolocumab allows the liver to remove more LDL cholesterol, leading to lower blood levels. It is typically prescribed for people with certain genetic conditions or those who haven't achieved their cholesterol goals through diet and other medications. Evolocumab is administered via injection, usually every few weeks.
