Evian Accords

The Evian Accords were a peace agreement signed in 1962 between France and Algeria, ending the Algerian War of Independence. They outlined the terms for Algeria's transition from French colony to independent nation, including granting Algeria self-rule, recognition of its sovereignty, and provisions for the rights of French citizens in Algeria. The accords also addressed issues like military withdrawal and economic ties. This agreement allowed Algeria to become independent after more than 130 years of French colonization, ending a brutal conflict that lasted nearly eight years.
