European Mole

The European Mole (Talpa europaea) is a small, burrowing mammal native to Europe. It has a cylindrical body, velvety fur, and powerful forelimbs adapted for digging. Skilled at creating underground tunnels, it spends most of its life beneath the surface, searching for invertebrates like worms and insects to eat. The mole's closed eyes and small ears are adapted for a subterranean lifestyle, and it has a keen sense of smell. Despite its secretive habits, it plays an important role in soil aeration and insect control. It is generally solitary and active year-round, except during hibernation in colder months.
