European eel

The European eel (*Anguilla anguilla*) is a long, snake-like fish native to Europe and parts of North Africa. It has a flexible body, orange-brown coloration, and can grow up to 1.5 meters long. Eels live primarily in freshwater or coastal waters but breed in the Sargasso Sea, a region in the Atlantic Ocean. They undergo a complex life cycle, migrating thousands of kilometers from freshwater habitats to spawn and then die. European eels are nocturnal, secretive, and feed on small fish, invertebrates, and crustaceans. Due to overfishing and habitat loss, they are critically endangered.
