Euglenophyta

Euglenophyta is a group of single-celled organisms called euglenoids, found mostly in freshwater environments. They have characteristics of both plants and animals: they can photosynthesize like plants using light, but can also consume food heterotrophically when light is scarce. Euglenophyta possess a flexible cell membrane, a flagellum for movement, and chloroplasts for capturing light energy. Their ability to switch between photosynthesis and heterotrophy allows them to adapt to varying environmental conditions. They play an important role in aquatic ecosystems, contributing to oxygen production and serving as food for other aquatic creatures.
