EU-U.S. Privacy Shield
The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield was a framework that allowed companies to securely transfer personal data from the European Union to the United States while respecting EU data protection standards. It established rules and commitments for U.S. companies to protect EU citizens’ privacy rights, ensuring transparency, accountability, and security. However, in July 2020, the European Court of Justice invalidated the Privacy Shield, citing concerns about U.S. government access to data and overall privacy protections, which impacted how data can be safely transferred between the two regions.
