Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front

The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) was a coalition of political parties that led Ethiopia from 1991 to 2019 after overthrowing the government of Mengistu Haile Mariam. It was primarily composed of ethnically based groups, such as the Tigray and Oromo parties. The EPRDF aimed to stabilize the country and promote development but was also criticized for authoritarian tendencies and restrictions on political freedoms. In 2019, it was formally dissolved as a political coalition, transitioning Ethiopia toward a new political framework under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s leadership.
