Estado Novo
Estado Novo was a political regime in Portugal from 1933 to 1974, led by António de Oliveira Salazar. It was an authoritarian government that centralized power, suppressed political opposition, and limited civil liberties, promoting nationalism and conservatism. The regime used censorship and propaganda to maintain control, avoiding democratic elections and dissent. It aimed to preserve traditional values and stability amid social and economic challenges, but at the cost of political freedom. Estado Novo's rule ended with the Carnation Revolution in 1974, which restored democracy to Portugal.
