Essential Thrombocythemia
Essential thrombocythemia (ET) is a blood disorder where the bone marrow produces too many platelets, the cells that help prevent bleeding. This excess can cause abnormal blood clotting or, less commonly, bleeding problems. Often, ET has no symptoms initially and is found during routine blood tests. The exact cause is unknown, but it involves genetic mutations in blood cell production. While some people live normal lives, ET increases risks for blood clots or bleeding complications, so it requires medical monitoring and management to reduce these risks.
