Esophagectomy

Esophagectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing part or all of the esophagus, the tube that connects the throat to the stomach. This surgery is often performed to treat conditions like esophageal cancer, severe esophagitis, or esophageal strictures. After removal, the surgeon usually reconstructs the esophagus using part of the stomach or another section of the digestive tract. While it can be a life-saving operation, it requires significant recovery time and can lead to changes in eating and digestion. Patients will often need careful follow-up and support after the surgery.
