esophageal disorders
Esophageal disorders affect the tube connecting your throat to your stomach, impacting swallowing and digestion. Common problems include acid reflux, where stomach acid irritates the esophagus; esophageal spasms, causing chest pain and difficulty swallowing; and strictures, which are narrowings from scarring that block food passage. Other conditions include achalasia, a nerve disorder preventing the esophageal muscles from relaxing properly, and esophageal tumors. Symptoms often involve heartburn, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, or feeling that food is stuck. Proper diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent complications and improve quality of life.
