Esophageal Dilation
Esophageal dilation is a medical procedure used to widen a narrowed area of the esophagus, the tube that carries food from your mouth to your stomach. When the esophagus becomes tight or blocked due to conditions like scarring or inflammation, swallowing can become difficult or painful. During the procedure, a doctor inserts a special device, such as a balloon or a series of gradual expanders, into the esophagus to gently stretch and widen the narrowed section. This helps restore normal swallowing and improves comfort, providing relief from symptoms caused by esophageal strictures or other obstructions.
