Ernesto Miranda (the person)

Ernesto Miranda was an American who became known because of a landmark legal case in 1966. He was accused of kidnapping and rape, and when he was interrogated by police, he was not informed of his rights to remain silent or have an attorney present. His confession was used as evidence, leading to his conviction. The case resulted in the U.S. Supreme Court establishing the requirement for police to inform suspects of their rights before questioning, known as "Miranda rights," including the right to remain silent and have legal counsel. This significantly changed law enforcement procedures nationwide.
