Erk
ERK, which stands for Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase, is a protein involved in transmitting signals inside cells. It plays a key role in controlling processes like cell growth, division, and survival. When cells receive signals, ERK gets activated through a series of steps, then moves into the nucleus to influence gene activity. Proper ERK function is essential for normal development and tissue maintenance. However, if ERK signaling is overactive or defective, it can contribute to diseases such as cancer, by causing cells to grow uncontrollably.
