Eritrean-Ethiopian War
The Eritrean-Ethiopian War (1998–2000) was a conflict primarily over border disputes, especially around the town of Badme. Ethiopia and Eritrea, two neighboring countries, fought after tensions escalated following Eritrea’s independence in 1993. The war resulted in heavy casualties and destruction, costing thousands of lives and displacing many. A peace agreement was reached in 2000, establishing a UN-monitored border commission to resolve the dispute. Despite the formal end to active fighting, tensions have persisted, and the border remains a sensitive issue affecting regional stability.
