Erie Lackawanna Railway
The Erie Lackawanna Railway was a prominent American railroad company that operated in the northeastern United States from 1960 to 1976. It was formed when the Erie Railroad merged with the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad, combining their networks to improve efficiency and competitiveness. The railway primarily transported passengers and freight across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and surrounding areas. Although it faced financial challenges amid industry decline and competition from other transportation modes, the Erie Lackawanna played a significant role in regional commerce and mobility during its operation. In 1976, it became part of Conrail, a government-backed freight rail consolidation.
