Ergodic theorists study systems that evolve over time, such as gases in a container or planetary orbits. They examine how, over long periods, the system's behavior averages out and reflects its entire possible states. Essentially, they ask whether, given enough time, the system explores all configurations evenly, which helps connect long-term averages to spatial averages.
