ErbB (HER) Family
The ErbB (HER) family consists of four closely related proteins that act as receptors on cell surfaces, involved in controlling cell growth, division, and repair. When they bind to specific signals called growth factors, they activate internal processes that encourage cells to divide or survive. Proper function of these receptors is vital for normal development, but when they are mutated or overactive, they can contribute to uncontrolled cell growth, leading to cancers such as breast cancer. Targeting these receptors with specific therapies helps manage certain cancer types by blocking their abnormal activity.
