Erase head

An erase head is a component found in magnetic tape devices, like tape recorders or Data Storage systems, responsible for removing or "erasing" existing magnetic signals from the tape before recording new information. It works by generating a magnetic field that randomizes or neutralizes the previous magnetic patterns on the tape's surface. This ensures that when new data is recorded, it isn’t mixed with old data, maintaining clarity and accuracy. Essentially, the erase head prepares the tape for fresh recording by wiping clean any prior magnetic signals.
