Equatorial Current System

The Equatorial Current System consists of large, steady ocean currents flowing east to west along the Equator in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. These currents are driven primarily by the Earth's rotation and the trade winds, creating a continuous flow of warm water across the ocean surface. They help regulate climate by redistributing heat, support marine life, and influence weather patterns. The system includes major currents like the Pacific Equatorial Current and the Atlantic North and South Equatorial Currents, which can also generate smaller countercurrents that flow in the opposite direction.
