Episcleritis and Scleritis

Episcleritis and scleritis are both inflammatory conditions affecting the eye's outer layers. Episcleritis is a mild inflammation of the episclera, the tissue between the conjunctiva and sclera, often causing redness and discomfort, typically resolving on its own or with topical medication. Scleritis, on the other hand, involves deeper inflammation of the sclera, leading to significant pain, redness, and potentially vision issues. It may be linked to systemic diseases. While episcleritis is usually benign, scleritis requires more careful medical evaluation and treatment to manage symptoms and underlying causes.
