Epimenides of Crete
Epimenides of Crete was an ancient Greek philosopher and poet from the 6th or 7th century BCE. He is famous for his paradoxical statement, "All Cretans are liars," as he himself was a Cretan. This paradox highlights issues about truth and language, showing that self-referential claims can be logically problematic. Epimenides also contributed to early religious and philosophical thought, blending poetry with reflections on morality and divine matters. His ideas influenced later thinkers in logic, theology, and philosophy, especially in discussions of truth, belief, and self-reference.
