epididymis

The epididymis is a coiled tube located at the back of each testicle that functions as a storage and maturation site for sperm. As sperm are produced in the testicles, they travel into the epididymis, where they acquire the ability to swim and fertilize an egg. This process takes several days. The epididymis also stores sperm until ejaculation. It plays a crucial role in male fertility by ensuring sperm are properly matured and ready for potential fertilization during ejaculation.
