Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS)
The Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) is a program of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that trains public health professionals to respond quickly to outbreaks of disease. EIS officers, often called "disease detectives," investigate health emergencies, collect data, and analyze trends to control and prevent diseases. They work on various issues, from infectious disease outbreaks to environmental health threats, helping communities improve health safety. Established in 1951, the EIS plays a critical role in protecting public health by ensuring timely responses to emerging health challenges.
