Ependymal Cells

Ependymal cells are specialized cells that line the ventricles (fluid-filled spaces) in the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord. They help produce and circulate cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which cushions the brain and spinal cord, removes waste, and provides nutrients. Ependymal cells have tiny hair-like structures called cilia that beat to move the CSF around. They also form a barrier between the cerebrospinal fluid and the nervous tissue, helping maintain a stable environment for the nervous system. Overall, ependymal cells play a crucial role in maintaining brain and spinal cord health through fluid regulation.
