Eoin MacNeill

Eoin MacNeill was an Irish scholar, nationalist, and political leader. He co-founded the Gaelic League to preserve Irish culture and language. As a politician, he served as Ireland’s Chief of Staff of the Irish Volunteers and played a key role in the push for independence from Britain. During the 1916 Easter Rising, he initially opposed the rebellion but later helped organize Ireland’s struggle for independence. MacNeill’s efforts contributed significantly to Ireland’s cultural revival and the political movement that eventually led to the country's independence.
