Entrapment

Entrapment is a legal defense used when someone is accused of a crime but claims they only committed it because a government agent or officer pressured, tricked, or induced them into doing so, and they wouldn’t have acted otherwise. It involves situations where law enforcement improperly persuades an individual to commit an offense they wouldn’t have otherwise committed. To succeed with this defense, the person usually must show that the idea to commit the crime originated from the authorities and that they were not predisposed to commit it prior to the police involvement.
