Enterohepatic circulation
Enterohepatic circulation is the process where the liver produces bile to help digest fats, and then this bile is stored in the gallbladder. After eating, the gallbladder releases bile into the intestines, where it aids fat digestion. Most of the bile acids from digestion are then absorbed back into the bloodstream in the intestines and transported back to the liver. The liver recycles these bile acids, reusing them to produce more bile for ongoing digestion. This efficient recycling system helps maintain the balance of bile acids and supports proper fat absorption while conserving energy and resources.
