Enhancer

An enhancer is a specific region of DNA that helps increase the activity of a gene, making it produce more of a particular protein. Think of it as a volume knob for gene expression—when the enhancer is active, it boosts the gene's output, often by helping the cell's machinery access the gene more easily. Enhancers can be located far from the gene they influence, yet they still regulate it by looping the DNA so that the enhancer and gene come into contact. This process is essential for controlling when and how much of a protein a cell produces.
