Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson
Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson was a Swedish nobleman and leader in the early 15th century, notable for leading a rebellion against the Danish king Eric of Pomerania. This uprising, known as the Engelbrekt rebellion, emerged from discontent over high taxes and centralized power. Engelbrekt’s efforts were significant in asserting regional autonomy and influencing Sweden's struggle for independence. Although he was eventually murdered in 1436, his legacy lived on, inspiring Swedish nationalism and the eventual establishment of Swedish independence. Engelbrekt is often regarded as a symbol of resistance against oppression in Swedish history.
