Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER)
The Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) measures how efficiently an air conditioner or cooling appliance uses electricity to produce cooling. It is calculated by dividing the cooling output (measured in British Thermal Units, or BTUs) by the electricity consumed (measured in watts). A higher EER means the unit uses less energy to cool the same space, making it more efficient and cost-effective over time. It helps consumers compare different models’ energy performance, so they can choose appliances that save money and reduce environmental impact without sacrificing cooling performance.
