Endotoxin

Endotoxins are toxic substances found in the outer membrane of certain bacteria, especially Gram-negative bacteria. When these bacteria die or multiply, they release endotoxins into their environment, which can trigger strong immune responses in humans and animals. This can cause symptoms such as fever, inflammation, and in severe cases, shock. Endotoxins are not living organisms themselves, but their presence can indicate bacterial contamination and potential health risks. They are important in medical and environmental contexts, especially concerning infections, contaminated water, or improperly sterilized medical equipment.
