endometriosis staging systems

Endometriosis staging systems classify how severe the condition is based on the size, depth, and location of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Common systems like the revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) score categorize endometriosis from minimal (Stage I) to severe (Stage IV). Stage I involves small, superficial implants, while Stage IV indicates large, deep, widespread lesions and significant scar tissue. Staging helps doctors understand disease extent, guide treatment decisions, and predict potential impact on fertility and pain levels. However, the stage doesn’t always correlate directly with symptoms experienced by the patient.
