endometrial tissue

Endometrial tissue is the lining that normally grows inside the uterus, preparing it for a possible pregnancy each month. If pregnancy doesn’t occur, this tissue sheds and exits the body as menstrual blood. Sometimes, endometrial-like tissue can grow outside the uterus, causing pain, inflammation, and other issues—a condition known as endometriosis. This tissue is responsive to hormonal changes, meaning it thickens and breaks down in sync with the menstrual cycle. Its primary role is to support pregnancy, but when misplaced, it can lead to health problems requiring medical attention.
