Endemic fungi
Endemic fungi are types of fungi that are naturally found within specific geographic areas or environments. These fungi live in the soil, decaying organic matter, or other natural settings, and people or animals may become infected through inhaling spores or coming into contact with contaminated environments. Such infections are more common in certain regions due to local climate and soil conditions. Examples include Histoplasma in the Ohio River Valley and Coccidioides in the southwestern United States. While these fungi are usually harmless to healthy individuals, they can cause illness in those with weakened immune systems.
