ENCODE Project (Encyclopedia of DNA Elements)

The ENCODE Project (Encyclopedia of DNA Elements) is a research initiative aimed at identifying and understanding all the functional parts of human DNA beyond just the genes that code for proteins. While genes make proteins, most of our DNA is involved in regulating gene activity, organizing chromosomes, and conducting other essential biological processes. ENCODE uses advanced techniques to map these elements, providing a comprehensive "atlas" of the functional components in our genome. This helps scientists understand how our DNA works, how variations can affect health, and unlocks insights into human biology and disease.
