
Empress Shoshi
Empress Shoshi, also known as Takako Shimazu, was the last empress consort of Japan, married to Emperor Shōwa (Hirohito). She became empress in 1921 and held the title until her husband's death in 1989. Her role was primarily ceremonial, representing the dignity and tradition of the Japanese imperial family.
