Empress Helena

Empress Helena, also known as Saint Helena, was the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, who Christianized the Roman Empire. Living in the 3rd and 4th centuries, she is celebrated for her piety and her pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where she is believed to have discovered the True Cross—those pieces of the crucifixion of Jesus. Her efforts helped promote Christianity within the empire, and she was later canonized as a saint.
