Emission Reduction Units (ERUs)
Emission Reduction Units (ERUs) are carbon credits created through projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in countries that have committed to limit their emissions. Each ERU represents one tonne of CO2 (or equivalent gases) prevented from entering the atmosphere. These units can be traded and used by other countries or companies to meet their emission reduction targets under international agreements like the Kyoto Protocol. Essentially, ERUs enable developed countries to invest in environmentally beneficial projects abroad, helping them achieve their climate goals in a flexible, market-based way while promoting global efforts to combat climate change.
