Emission nebula

An emission nebula is a cloud of ionized gas in space that glows brightly due to the energy from nearby hot stars. These stars emit intense ultraviolet light that strips electrons from the gas atoms, causing the gas to emit light as electrons recombine with atoms. This process creates the colorful, luminous appearance of emission nebulae, often seen in regions of star formation. They are primarily composed of hydrogen and other elements, and their glow reveals areas where new stars are being born.
