Emerald Ash Borer

The Emerald Ash Borer is a small, invasive beetle from Asia that attacks ash trees. Its larvae feed under the bark, disrupting the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients, which ultimately kills the tree. First identified in North America in 2002, it has since caused widespread destruction of ash forests and urban trees. The beetle spreads through wood, firewood, and nursery stock, making early detection and management critical. Efforts include monitoring, removing infested trees, and using insecticides to protect unaffected trees. Its presence poses significant ecological and economic challenges to ash tree populations.
