Elongation Factor Tu (EF-Tu)

Elongation Factor Tu (EF-Tu) is a protein essential for protein synthesis in bacteria and other organisms. Its main role is to deliver aminoacyl-tRNA—the building blocks of proteins—to the ribosome during translation. EF-Tu forms a complex with the aminoacyl-tRNA and guides it to the ribosome’s active site. Once the correct match between the tRNA and the mRNA code is confirmed, EF-Tu releases the tRNA, allowing protein assembly to continue. This process ensures that proteins are accurately and efficiently produced, making EF-Tu crucial for cell growth and function.
